The Catholic Schools Kahui Ako (Roncalli College, Sacred Heart, St Joseph’s Timaru, St Joseph’s Temuka and St Joseph’s Pleasant Point) have a combined Staff Only Day scheduled for Friday 31 May.
The focus of this staff development day will be The Science and Practice of Whole-school Wellbeing and we are lucky to have secured Dr Denise Quinlan as our keynote speaker. Dr Quinlan specialises in the science of well-being and has presented internationally on the topic. She uses scientific evidence to help people develop strategies to improve their personal well-being.
As well-being is one of the strategic goals of our Kahui Ako, and a major focus in each of our schools, we are looking forward to Dr Quinlan’s presentation and also the opportunity to come together as educators to explore common strategies we can use to assist our young people with the challenges they face in our fast-paced modern society.
I regret that this teacher only day falls only 2 days after the PPTA/NZEI strike action and realise it may cause some inconvenience to families. However, this has been on our calendar since the start of the year and is very relevant to the issues we are currently facing with both staff and students.
I appreciate the support you give our staff and I am confident that this opportunity will translate into better well-being opportunities for our whole community.
