We would like to invite all year 10, 11 and 12 students, parents and caregivers to the upcoming Senior Course Selection to be held on Thursday 18 October 2018.
This process will enable students to select an appropriate course for 2019. Please make sure you read the Course Selection handbook prior to attending the Open Home afternoon so that your student can make an informed decision about their course pathway. The handbook provides information about each subject, course, and proposed assessment statements (contains details on method of assessment, internal vs external availability and credit total).
Learning Area Open Home Afternoon 3.30-4.30pm
· All Year 10, 11 & 12 students, parents and caregivers are invited to this opportunity
·This is a chance to visit classrooms, talk to teachers and to find out more about specific subjects and courses prior to selecting your 2019 course
·Curriculum Leaders and staff will be available in nominated classrooms around the College between 3.30-4.30pm to sign off approval into selected courses
·Students will be able to view resources and examples of student work
NCEA Level One Parent Caregiver Meeting /Presentation 5.00-6.00pm
All Year 10 students and their parents/caregivers are then invited to a presentation in the Hall outlining the requirements of NCEA. During the presentation:
·Senior staff will outline the NZQA requirements for NCEA, progression of courses through the senior school and provide information on selecting a course that meets the needs of your student.
·Parents and students will then have the opportunity to meet with senior staff to further discuss subjects and courses after which Curriculum Leaders will be available in the Gymnasium to sign off student’s proposed courses.
Gateway programme 2019 Parent Caregiver Meeting /Presentation Monday 15 October
All students and their parents/caregivers intending on selecting the Gateway programme as a course in 2019 must attend a presentation in the Library outlining the requirements of the programme. During the presentation:
·Gateway Manager Mrs Mehrtens and Careers Coordinator Mrs Heenan will outline the requirements for the programme, possible placements, and progressions through the programme.
·Parents and students will then be given an interview time. This will involve a one on one session with the Gateway Manager to ensure the programme prerequisites can be met.
