Aoraki Secondary Schools Junior Tennis Tournament 2017
The Aoraki Secondary Schools Junior Tennis Tournament was played at the Trust Aoraki Tennis Centre on Thursday 26 October.  Roncalli was represented with a mixed team –
Sophie Wilson (captain), Sophie Lyons, Max Taylor and Sam Young.
Four teams contested the mixed grade, Ashburton, Mt Hutt, St Kevins and Roncalli College.  It was a round robin format, all matches were played one set to six in both singles and doubles.  The first round of the day Roncalli faced St Kevins, Roncalli winning convincingly 5-1.  Round two was a closer fought battle against Asburton College, Sophie Wilson won her singles 6-1 and the girls’ partnership of both Sophie’s won their doubles 6-4.  In the other games Ashburton were too strong coming out the eventual winners 4-2.  Ashburton went on to win the mixed title.
Last match of the day was against Mt Hutt, at the end of the four singles it was tied two all, Sophie Wilson and Max Taylor both winning their singles easily, Roncalli’s doubles combinations proved too strong , Max and Sam winning 6-4 and the girls 6-1.
Roncalli finished a well-deserved second place overall and received certificates at the prize giving for their efforts.  Max and Sam are both year 9 students so we hope to see them back again next year to compete in this junior tournament.

The students represented themselves proudly which made for a great day of tennis.
