Timaru is part of the South Canterbury region, sometimes called Aoraki.

Timaru is located on the East Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Only two hours drive south of Christchurch and a similar drive to Dunedin.

The region is the ideal base to explore Mount Cook and the Waitaki Lakes. Climate: Summer (Dec-Feb), moderate, 15 - 23 degrees; Winter (Jun-Aug), mild, 9 - 14 degrees. Rainfall: 600mm per annum; Sunshine: 2000 hours per annum.

A friendly, welcoming place with all the amenities of a bigger city - cinemas, theatre, cafes, bars and restaurants (including ethnic restaurants such as Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean, Indian, Italian); good shops, pools, beach, skate park, Aorangi Stadium.
